Rainbow Heart Transparencies

Here's a super easy way to decorate your abode for the upcoming day of LOVE…

Rainbow Heart Transparencies

To make your own you will need:
cardstock
tissue paper (rainbow colours and white)
scissors
glue stick

To begin cut out a heart shape…cut out the inside too.

Now using your glue stick, glue white tissue paper to the underside.

Then…cut out strips of rainbow coloured tissue paper…
layer it side by side in the colours of the rainbow.

Trim off all the excess and it should look like this…pretty huh?

To put up in the window I put a few dabs of glue, (with the glue stick), on the backside…
the glue washes off easily when they come down…I find it looks nicer than tape and holds really well.

And that's it!  These are so easy to whip up…and they look so pretty.
Here's to celebrating LOVE in all its glory!

Love Lanterns

It is mighty cold here in Ontario right now and it is all about staying cozy in this deep freeze! To bring some extra light to our evening snuggles by the wood stove, we created some love lanterns.

To create you will need

pale pink tissue paper
mod podge
glass bowl
paint brush
pressed tulip petals

The wonderful thing I discovered with tulip petals is that they form hearts as they dry!
To create these petal hearts, start by getting yourself a much needed of bouquet of tulips (ah.... spring in the dead of winter, medicine for the soul)!

Press the tulip petals in a heavy book between two sheets of paper. Give them a week or so to dry and then voila... tulip petal hearts!

Cut or tear your tissue paper into strips.

Apply a layer of mod podge onto your bowl the length and width of a strip, place a strip on top and then apply another layer of mod podge.

Keep going until your entire bowl is covered.
Place it on a bottle to dry.

Next, add mod podge and then your hearts where ever your heart desires!
Finally mod podge very gently over top of your heart.

 Allow it to fully dry.

The tissue paper and hearts will remain fairly fragile until they are dry, so handle with care.

Light up your love lantern and find a snuggle partner to enjoy it with!

In love & light

Potato Print Valentines

I have been pondering an easy, fun way to create our love letter valentines to pass out...
Heart potato prints occurred to me ~ so we thought we would give it a go!

Here's how it goes

To begin
Slice your potato in half.
Press a strong cookie cutter in the potato and using a knife, cut in from the side up to the cookie cutter that is still in the potato ~ until the excess potato falls away and you are left with your shape.  (Thanks helpful reader for this tip!)

You can then carve out a handle on the backside of your potato or push a craft stick into the back ~ a better grip for easier stamping.

Paint your stamp (painting seems to work much better than dipping)...

Now for the fun part ~ time to get stamp happy!

We enjoyed using metallic paints

As well we painted our stamps with glue, stamped them onto our cards and shook on glitter.

We spent our afternoon in a world of glitter and paint ~ a warm way to share in a winters day, while a blizzard swirled around the home.

The girls shared the task of filling in our love letters.
Teamwork all the way! (including the messy clean up ; )

Then of course we had to join that wonderful white world and taste the blizzard first hand!

Heres to glitter and rosy cheeks!
